HTM 40th ANNIVERSARY FUND

Learning Without Borders

EMPOWERING, TRANSFORMING, ENGAGING AND LEADING

The HTM 40th Anniversary Fund provides graduates with the global mindset they need to navigate our rapidly changing international economy. Course travel, international studies, distance learning, and, most importantly of all, accessibility are all enhanced through this Fund.

The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of Guelph is about to reach a milestone: its 40th anniversary. We’re celebrating 4 decades of preparing students to become leaders and managers within our industry. We’re celebrating our increasing international profile as one of the top teaching and research institutions in our field. And we’re celebrating all the potential on the road ahead.

That’s why we’ve established the HTM 40th Anniversary Fund.

AREAS OF PRIORITY

  • Providing experiential learning opportunities
    through work-study and course travel
  • Expanding opportunities for international studies
    through semester abroad programs
  • Encouraging development of leadership skills
through participation in conferences and training
    opportunities
  • Increasing accessibility via scholarship support
  • Supporting continued excellence in teaching by way
of course development to address new challenges
    in the industry

It’s a project we think will be close to your heart because, like you, it aims high. Our goal is to establish by 2010 a $2 million endowment fund. This fund, created by donors, will be used to develop and offer enhanced learning opportunities for all our students – undergraduates who are starting out, graduates who are continuing, and industry professionals who are returning.

We’re committed to providing more and better learning opportunities for our students because hospitality and tourism in the 21st century requires more and better leadership, management, and hands-on skills. It also requires the commitment of people like you, and so we invite you to contribute to the HTM 40th Anniversary Fund.

And we thank you for being with us every step of the way so far. We would not be celebrating this milestone without you. We are, after all, the School that you helped build.

HTM 40th Anniversary Fund – A gift for tomorrow’s leaders.

HAFA/HTM ALUMNI ASSOCIATION MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

ALUMNI INVOLVEMENT

The School has been very proactive to inviting alumni back as guest lecturers, Executive-in-Residence; to participate at the annual career (employer) fair, awards and convocation ceremonies, and, by invitation, to sit on advisory committees and boards. The alumni board has been involved in the interview process for all directors (except the first director of course!).

Class reunions have been informal and mostly off campus. For example, the Class of 1978 enjoyed a 20-year reunion in the school’s dining room hosted by the students. In June 2005, the Class of 1990 toured the School including the new PJ’s Restaurant in the Atrium and had dinner at Woolwich Arms.

Mentorship: The alumni are very passionate about volunteering to mentor, sharing job experiences and have had formal job shadowing programs.
